The Constantia Valley is one of the closest and oldest winemaking regions in the area, only 20 minutes from the City Centre. Home to some of Cape Town’s best restaurants and finest wine farms, a trip along the Constantia Wine Route is a gourmet experience like none other. Taste the best of Constantia’s wines, enjoy a deliciously prepared meal, and savour all the delights that the valley has to offer.
Be sure to visit Groot Constantia Wine Farm, it is South Africa’s first wine farm and is full of amazing History, restaurants and walks through the vineyards.
Fun Fact: When you visit Constantia Wine Farms or buy their wines in the store, you’ll see the embossed word “Constantia” on the bottle. When you see this, you know the grapes originated from the Constantia region. There are some wines made in Constantia that do not have this embossing, this means that the grapes were sourced from another region.
Only about a 45-minute drive outside of Cape Town, this region makes for a great day out. There are over 200 wine farms out in the Winelands. It’s a mixture of household and “big-names”, also some smaller more boutique farms.
When in Franschhoek, drink responsibly on the Franschhoek Wine Tram. It visits many farms on various routes and it is such a fun day out with friends!
